The first time I traveled to New Mexico, I fell in love!! I’ve been to Albuquerque several times now and can’t get enough. If you’ve ever been, then you know I used the sunstone to help recreate the Sandia mountains...at a certain time of day the sun hits the mountain range and it glows a watermelon color because of the feldspar in the rocks. Sandia means watermelon in Spanish...
And of course I had to use turquoise...
Also, the Zia is the symbol on the state flag, it has many meanings, one of which is the circle of life.
This piece is rich in the symbols of the Land of Enchantment...aka New Mexico.
